• International Women’s Day and Planting Trees in Karura Forest

March 8th was International Women’s Day. We recognize the valuable work that women do and the importance of education for young women. We are also able to work with some incredible young women through this initiative. Below is a quote from Joy, one of the women in the initiative, reflecting on the day.

“We appreciate all of the women in the world who are doing their best to make the world a better place. Despite the struggles, women are unstoppable and they are the pillars of our societies.

‘A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform.’ ~ Diane Mariechild”

Joy also told us about visiting Karura Forest, an area that was also of great concern to Wangari Maathai, with her environmental class. She is going to learn lessons on tree planting and about different varieties of trees. She’s starting a tree planting campaign with her friends, and already has a volunteer who has provided themĀ  5 acres of land for the trees. Joy says, “Our Environment is our Life we need to guard it the way we do it to our hearts!”
